Patient Protection and Safety
Cross-infection control

Uncompromising Patient Protection & Safety !
In the last few years, patient protection has become an issue of public concern. With the discovery of the AIDS (HIV) virus and the medical implications of Hepatitis-B, it has become necessary for health care facilities to consistently apply state-of-the-art sterilization and disinfection techniques to provide patients with maximum protection.

Patient protection | Cosmetic Dentistry
We believe it is important that you feel comfortable as a patient of Lane Ends Dental practice not only for our clinical skills in cosmetic dentistry but also for the precautions we take to protect ourselves and our patients from infectious disease during treatment.
At Lane Ends Dental Clinic, you will notice that each cosmetic dentist and dental assistant wears face masks, gloves, and eye protection. These are worn as barriers to prevent the transfer of bacteria or viruses. However, what you don't see is just as important.
In our smile studio, your safety is our highest priority. Throughout the day, we continuously and thoroughly sterilize our equipment for patient protection. Our protocol for sterilization includes the following: Before and after each patient appointment, all treatment surfaces (e.g., countertops, chair surfaces, lights, x-ray machines, and trays) are disinfected with the most effective and safest products available. Some work surfaces and equipment, because of their texture or unusual shape, can be very difficult to disinfect and are covered by barriers which are discarded after use.
Infection Control - Sterilization ;
To ensure patient protection, we follow a number of standard sterilization procedures with all instruments and hand-pieces. First, they are brought into our sterilization room and placed in an ultrasonic cleaner to remove even microscopic debris. The instruments and hand-pieces are then rinsed thoroughly before being sterilized in an autoclave, which runs for 50-80 minutes and reaches a temperature of 400 - 425 degrees, thereby destroying all bacteria and all viruses. Our autoclave and dry heat sterilizer are monitored regularly to ensure their effectiveness and safety.
The instruments are packaged in such a fashion that ensures they are never touched before actual setup in the treatment room, and when the instruments are touched it is with gloved hands. All of our hand-pieces (drills) are also thoroughly wiped with the surface disinfectant and then sterilized in a pressured steam oven.
All of our prophy angles (cleaning & polishing instrument) are disposable so that you and your family can be assured that you will always have a fresh new one every time you have your teeth cleaned. We use disposable products whenever possible to eliminate cross-infection.
All staff members are updated annually in proper patient protection & infection control procedures and have been vaccinated against the Hepatitis-B virus. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding patient protection and give you a personal tour of our sterilization facility.
